I seem to have missed writing about our stop at Winton. This was our stop between the famous "Walkabout Creek Pub" at Mackinlay (see here) and Longreach Tourist Park (here) and the Longreach free camp (here)
Winton, as most people know, is where Banjo Paterson Penned “Waltzing Matilda”. It is also the Dinosaur capital of Australia.
Having been here before this was a quick stop for the night before heading east.
Matilda Country Tourist Park
The park managers were away at the time we stayed. A guy who had been staying there a while was helping them out. We eventually found him or him us?
The park was smaller but had a pool and was tidy all be it a bit old. They also do swap and go gas which is a bonus. We missed the resident poet.
We unhooked and headed in to town for some food. I love the old building in the main street as well as the fun dinosaur bins 😀
Unfortunately the new Waltzing Matilda Centre was not up and running at the time. That I would have liked to visit!
Check out the "Outback Queensland" site(here) for more information on the town.
